1. Conduct research on fashion trends, consumer preferences, and market demands to identify potential new design concepts and innovations in products.
2. Create design concepts, sketches, mood boards, and storyboards to convey creative themes, colors, fabrics, and silhouettes for each collection or product line.
3. Work with cross-functional teams, such as merchandisers, marketers, and production managers, to ensure that design concepts are aligned with brand strategy, target audience, and business objectives.
4. Prepare thorough technical drawings, specifications, and tech packs for garment construction, including explicit instructions and measurements for patternmakers, sample makers, and manufacturers.
5. Source and select fabrics, trimmings, embellishments, and materials for prototypes and samples, working with suppliers, vendors, and manufacturers to achieve high-quality materials while staying within price and schedule limitations.
6. Manage the sample development process, including fits, modifications, and revisions to achieve precise garment fit, drape, and proportion in accordance with the specifications of the design.
