• Ensures through his/her actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient served at the Prince Sultan Cardiac Center.

Provides the highest attainable standards of medical care for the patients for whom he/she is responsible.

• Responsible for the clinical care of critically ill patients admitted to ICU according to generally accepted standards.

Communicates and cooperates with other medical staff and colleagues who have patients in ICU, to discuss pertinent medical problems regarding patients in other areas of the hospital.

• In charge specifically of ventilator, circulatory fluid and nutritional therapy concerning the patient in ICU.
• Participates in the evaluation of patients who are candidates for ICU either as transfers from outside or within PSCC.
• Participates in the administrative organisation of the ICU under the direction of the Director of the Department and the Consultant In charge of ICU. Takes part in the development of the unit’s rules and regulations, standards of care and maintenance of the equipment (in conjunction with the Biomedical engineering department).
• Teaches staff assigned for training purposes and participates with the Director of Paediatrics and the Director of Post Graduate and Academic Affairs in planning of programs for career development of trainees.
• Participates in the forward planning and development of the department.
• Participates in and/or actively supports approved research projects.
• Participates in the improvement of quality of patient care (Total Quality Management Program, Quality Assessment Improvement Program) as applicable.
• Strives to improve his/her clinical expertise and standard of practice with regards to morbidity and cost effectiveness.
• Participates in the Major Disaster Plan of PSCC as indicated.
• Participates in On-Call duties as required by the department.
• Serves on PSCC committees as requested.
