Duty Station: Field locations across Iraq and/or the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, as assigned
Reporting Line: Field Supervisor / Project Officer / MEAL Officer

Position Summary

Smithson Ltd. is seeking qualified and reliable Enumerators to support project-based data collection, field verification, beneficiary registration, assessments, monitoring activities, and evaluation exercises. Enumerators will work on a contract basis and will be engaged according to project requirements, geographic coverage, and assignment schedules.

The role requires careful attention to detail, respectful communication with community members, accurate use of digital or paper-based data collection tools, and full compliance with Smithson’s ethical, safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection standards.

Key Responsibilities

Enumerators will:

  • Conduct household surveys, individual interviews, focus group support, registration activities, verification visits, and other data collection tasks as assigned.
  • Use approved questionnaires, forms, tablets, mobile applications, or paper-based tools accurately and consistently.
  • Explain the purpose of the data collection to respondents in a clear, respectful, and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Obtain informed consent before collecting information.
  • Ensure collected data is complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
  • Maintain neutrality and avoid influencing respondent answers.
  • Report field challenges, complaints, referral needs, security concerns, and data quality issues to the supervisor.
  • Attend orientation, training, pilot testing, daily briefings, and debriefings as required.
  • Protect all respondent information and project data.
  • Represent Smithson professionally during fieldwork.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum secondary school education required; diploma or university degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in data collection, surveys, assessments, monitoring, registration, or field research is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with NGOs, development consultancies, UN agencies, or humanitarian actors is an advantage.
  • Good command of the local language of the assigned area is required.
  • Arabic, Kurdish, Turkmen, English, or other relevant languages are an advantage depending on location.
  • Basic digital literacy and ability to use smartphones, tablets, KoboToolbox, ODK, Google Forms, Excel, or similar tools is preferred.

Contract Note

This is not a full-time employment position. Engagement will be made on a contract basis according to confirmed project needs, approved budget, field schedule, and satisfactory completion of required orientation or assessment. Being shortlisted or included in an enumerator roster does not guarantee continuous work or future assignments.
