Job Description

Main Purpose: To strengthen the quality and safety of patient care by training, mentoring ambulance staff, nursing staff regarding clinical standards, protocols, and procedures, and by supporting in designing, organizing, and facilitating practical simulations and continuous learning activities within the ER department and the ambulance service. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Infection Prevention Training and Clinical Standards Training 
  • Trains, coaches, and supervises staff on universal hygiene standards, infection prevention and control (IPC), bio-hazard prevention, and security protocols. 
  • Organizes refresher sessions, on-the-job coaching, and practical demonstrations related to IPC. 
  • Promotes best practices related to medical ethics, confidentiality, and respect for medical secrecy. 
  1. Clinical Skills Training 
  • Contribute in developing and delivers training sessions on clinical care, treatments, and procedures according to Iraqi MOH and MSF guidelines. 
  • Trains staff and conducts refereshers in the MCP (mass casualty plan) and with the ED doctor organizes MCI (mass casualty incident) training simulations for nurses, ambulance staff and doctors. 
  • Evaluates staff clinical competencies through observation, mentoring, and feedback. 

 

  1. SGBV Awareness and PEP Training 
  • Trains healthcare staff to identify signs of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in patients. 
  • Provides training on the importance of compassionate treatment for these patients according to Iraqi MOH and MSF guidelines. 
  • Uses simulations and role-playing scenarios to reinforce sensitive and ethical patient management. 

 

  1. Patient Reception, Triage, and Emergency Simulation 
  • Trains ER staff on patient reception, installation, and care for patients with reduced autonomy. 
  • Conducts training and simulations on:  
  • Triage according to Iraqi MOH and/or IITT international standard 
  • Identification of priority and life-threatening cases 
  • First aid and immediate nursing interventions 
  • Assesses staff performance during simulations and provides structured debriefings. 

 

 

  1. Mental Health Training 
  • Trains staff on common mental health presentations seen in the Emergency Department and how to provide safe and compassionate treatment. 
  • Coaches staff in effective communication with patients in mental health crisis including techniques such as de-escalation 

 

  1. Patient Monitoring, Surveillance, and Reporting 
  • Trains staff on patient admission processes, clinical surveillance, and follow-up care. 
  • Ensures staff can identify clinical deterioration and emergency situations early. 
  • Organizes case-based discussions and scenario simulations related to patient monitoring and escalation of care. 

 

  1. Documentation, Handover, and Data Quality 
  • Trains staff on accurate and complete medical documentation (patient files, registers, statistics, and reports). 
  • Supports data collection activities and reinforces the importance of timely and accurate reporting. 
  • Provides feedback and corrective coaching when documentation gaps are identified. 

 

  1. Pharmacy and Medical Supply Management Training 
  • Trains staff on proper storage, handling, and monitoring of medicines and medical supplies. 
  • Provides guidance on stock management, expiration tracking, and inventory control. 
  • Reinforces rules regarding authorization and accountability for medical materials. 
  • Integrates pharmacy and supply scenarios into simulation exercises. 

 

  1. Biomedical Equipment Training and Simulation 
  • Trains staff on correct use, cleaning, and minor maintenance of biomedical equipment as per Iraqi MOH and/or MSF guidelines 
  • Ensures staff follow user manuals and safety guidelines. 
  • Organizes hands-on practice sessions and simulations to improve equipment handling and troubleshooting. 

 

  1. Training and Simulation Responsibilities 
  • Contribute in design training plans based on service needs and observed skill gaps. 
  • Organizes classroom-based training, bedside coaching, and simulation-based learning sessions. 
  • Develops simple simulation scenarios, checklists, and evaluation tools. 
  • Leads simulation debriefings focused on learning, improvement, and patient safety. 
  • Works closely with medical supervisors and department heads to align training with clinical priorities. 

 

  1. Reporting and Collaboration 
  • Reports training activities, attendance, and identified gaps to medical supervisors. 
  • Collaborates with MSF ER doctor and MOH doctors, nurses, and support staff to ensure training relevance and effectiveness. 
  • Participates in continuous improvement of clinical practices through staff development. 


Requirements:

Education

Essential recognized nurse degree/diploma in Science of Nursing (4 years) 

Experience

Essential 5 years of previous experience in ER setting and or ambulances 

Desirable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting 

Languages                        

Essential: Fluent Kurdish and English

Location: Ranya

Contract Type: Fixed-term contract – full-time

Contract duration: 4 months  

Salary according to MSF-OCB Head Office grid
