Job Description

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral and independent international humanitarian organisation, which assists and protects victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence. The ICRC is currently looking for staff for its support operations in Iraq.

Job Title: Driver Light Vehicles – 3 Positions

Level: A2

Duty Station: Iraq – Baghdad Office

Reports to: Dispatcher 2            

Duration of Contract: Until 31.12.2026 (with possibility of extension).

Objective:

The Light Vehicles Driver transports people and goods in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with ICRC rules and regulations and national traffic laws.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

GENERAL Functions:

  • Drives different types of light ICRC vehicles by strictly following internal security rules and national traffic laws.
  • Transports people and/or material within the field and town area during duties as instructed.
  • Checks equipment on attributed cars, ensure proper fuelling and cleaning.
  • Fills in logbook correctly after every trip.
  • Follows security guidelines and is aware of/and reacts to current security situation.
  • Avoid using mobile phones during driving (mobile phone is only used for contacts before leaving and upon arrival, or with hand free kit while driving)
  • Informs Dispatcher / Radio Room about time of departure and return to the base.
  • Makes sure that vehicle is parked in safe area all the time and in emergency leaving position.
  • Drives only ICRC good and personnel in ICRC vehicles unless instructed different by superior.
  • Gives a hand to the loading and unloading of his vehicle.
  • Drives in safe, responsible and accident-free manner
  • Adapts the way of driving to the weather and road conditions
  • Reports to dispatcher about road conditions, eventual problems etc.
  • Reports vehicle accidents immediately using appropriate forms (including minor scratches)
  • Always to use the seat belts and ensures for passengers as well.

 

FUEL:

  • Ensures that the vehicles are always refuelled in time.
  • Drives in manner that minimizes fuel consumption and maintains vehicle in good condition.
  • Fills in refuelling data in logbook and fuel control sheets.
  • Hands over any fuel bills to dispatcher at the end of the trip.

 

VEHICLE’S CHECKING & MAINTENANCE:

  • Checks the mechanical condition of the vehicle before the trip and at the beginning of all working days: fluid levels, wheels, tyres, lights, inspects for eventual leaking of fuel and oil, checks body condition.
  • Ensures that all necessary vehicle documentation is available in the car and are valid.
  • On each handover and once a week checks vehicle equipment and body condition assigned for checking through checking lists.
  • Can change tyre or bulb on the road and to drain the main fuel filter.
  • Maintains the vehicle interior clean at all times.
  • Is responsible for equipment, tools, chains, spare tyres placed in the vehicles and reports any changes to Dispatcher or Carpool Manager (CPM).
  • Informs Dispatcher or CPM about service, maintenance and other possible repairs needed in advance and fills in technical report.
  • Assists driver colleagues in case of problems.


  • Secondary school diploma.
  • At least 3–5 years of professional driving experience with a clean driving record.
  • Driving license B (BE, B1) held for at least five years.
  • Fluent in Arabic language, knowledge (spoken and written) of English.
  • Automobile maintenance experience (oil checks, changing tyres, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of mechanics.
