Context/Reporting line:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all, and does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
In the framework of the project "Promoting Community Resilience to Violent Extremism in Reintegration Efforts for Iraqi Nationals Returning from North-East Syria", IOM Iraq is implementing a structured rehabilitation and reintegration programme targeting youth male returnees at the Al-Amal Rehabilitation Centre. The programme adopts a holistic, trauma-informed approach and life skills development, positive masculinity, and community reintegration to address the complex needs of this vulnerable population.
To support the effective implementation of this programme, IOM is seeking qualified rehabilitation facilitators who will play a central role in facilitating structured group activities, providing individual mentorship, and contributing to the overall wellbeing and reintegration of programme participants.
Under the general guidance of the Programme Officer (Return and Reintegration), the administrative supervision of the Head of Office (HoSO) and the direct supervision of the National Program Officer-PVE, the incumbent will perform for the following responsibilities:
Core Functions / Responsibilities
Programme Delivery and Facilitation
- Support the delivery of the 10-week structured rehabilitation and reintegration programme at Al-Amal Rehabilitation Centre, facilitating activities related to Arts and creative expression, Sports and physical activities, Life skills and critical thinking, Coexistence and social skills and Media literacy.
- Positive social behaviors and respect Individual and Caregiver Mentorship,
- Conduct one-to-one mentoring sessions with youth participants and, when appropriate, their caregivers.
- Support the delivery of caregiver modules for adult family members of programme participants.
MHPSS Referral and Psychosocial Support
- Identify participants who may require additional Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
- Follow established referral protocols to ensure timely and appropriate support.
Documentation and Safeguarding
- Maintain accurate attendance and participation records.
- adhere to IOM's safeguarding procedures at all times
- complete basic reporting as required.
Capacity Development
- Engage fully in all mandatory training provided by IOM prior to participant engagement, including Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Psychosocial First Aid (PFA), Effective Communication, Identification and Safe Referrals, Stress Management and Burnout Prevention
Role Modelling and Scheduling Commitment
- Serve as a positive role model by promoting healthy, respectful, and non-violent behaviors among youth participants.
- Commit to a consistent weekly schedule at Al-Amal Centre throughout the full programme duration.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic university or institution in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Community Development, Sociology, Law, Political Science, or any other relevant social sciences field; or
- High school diploma with two (2) years of relevant professional experience, preferably in community work, youth engagement, social services, education, or rehabilitation programmes.
Experience and Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate structured group activities for youth and effectively engage with participants and, when required, their families.
- Ability to work with individuals who may have been exposed to trauma, stigma, and difficult life experiences, while maintaining professional emotional boundaries and responding calmly and supportively in challenging situations.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in working with adolescents and youth.
- Ability to serve as a positive role model, promoting healthy, respectful, and non-violent behaviours among youth participants.
- Ability to identify challenges faced by youth and support reflective and constructive problem-solving.
- Openness to learning and applying new facilitation, mentoring, and engagement approaches.
Languages:
- Fluency in Arabic is required.
- Working Knowledge of Arabic or English is an advantage.
