Brief description of HIH:

Hand in Hand for Aid and Development (HIHFAD), previously operating as Hand in Hand for Syria, was established as a UK registered charity soon after the start of the Syrian crisis in 2011 by a group of British Syrians in order to deliver humanitarian assistance to civilians impacted by the conflict in Syria. From humble beginnings the charity has grown to become one of the leading humanitarian actors serving Syrian communities both inside Syria and in neighbouring countries, employing over 1100 staff in Syria, Turkey and the UK. As the organization grows, it now handles multiple institutional donors such as UN, International NGOs and bilateral governmental agencies.

 

Purpose of the Position:

The candidate for this position shall be an experienced humanitarian professional who has a proven track record of implementing emergency response, shelter and/or WASH.

  1. Assess needs for WASH/ESNFI interventions (House Rehabilitations, construction of dignified shelter, Water, Sanitation and NFI items).
  2. Ensure the project will satisfy the needs of the beneficiaries and provide oversight of WASH/SNFI interventions.
  3. Ensure that the project is achieving its goals in alleviating people’s suffering.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Help design and revise the construction/rehabilitation works component of the project work-plan,  and monitor that the implementation of the project activities respects the time-table milestones and deadlines.
  2. Follow up with relevant department on recruiting project staff.
  3. Regular monitoring of ongoing activities remotely to ensure that all the activities are implemented as per design, specifications and work schedule.
  4. Ensure the project/s are progressing towards their outputs and outcomes.
  5. Extend all possible technical support to other team members in Syria.
  6. Following the distribution activities of the NFI items (plans and progress).
  7. Preparation of weekly, monthly work plans and progress reports.
  8. Coordinate with other departments (HR, MEAL, Log, etc.,) about all issues related to the project.
  9. Ensure timely responses and implementation of the projects.
  10. Provide leadership, day-to-day support, coordination and supervising to project staff.
  11. Supervise technical assessment processes; generate high quality assessments reports and BoQs, drawings, and share assessment reports with relevant stakeholders.
  12. Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly reports including 4Ws.
  13. Joining task forces of writing proposals in coordination with related departments
  14. Conduct regular visits to project’s locations in NWS.

 

Knowledge and Qualifications:

Education:

  • University degree in Engineering faculty is preferable, or institute with more than five years of experience in Cash, WASH and/or shelter NFI emergency response.
  • Very good knowledge of project cycle management.

Experience:

  • At least three years’ work experience in managing WASH/SNFI projects from institutional donors (SCHF, UNICEF, WVI, etc,.). managing WASH/SNFI project under HF fund is an asset.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook .
  • Very Good written and spoken Arabic and English.
  • Very good knowledge of NWS and work experience there.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write periodic and ad hoc reports and correspondence.
