Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Abides by the Medical Staff by laws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff and those specific to the department.
  • Provides the highest attainable standard of medical care for the patients for whom he/she is responsible.
  • Carries out full range of inpatient and outpatient clinical duties as assigned by the Head of department in accordance with individually approved clinical privileges.
  • Participates in the improvement of quality of patient care (Total Quality Management Programme, Quality Assessment Improvement Programme) as applicable.
  • Organize all aspects of clinical teachings, ward rounds, seminars and related postgraduate activities. In particular to act as the main resource for the registrars and residents in the preparation of the fellowship examinations.
  • Ensure that all records are maintained and fully and accurately, and to guide the trainee in so doing.
  • Initiate investigative work in relation to the clinical experience of the department, and to organize regular audit in the main areas of that specialty.
  • Initiate and organize prospective trials and studies on currently important topics, with a view to publication.
  • Fulfills the requirements of the Saudi Council for Health Specialties with regard to continuing medical education.
  • Participates in and/or actively supports approved research projects
  • Strives to improve his clinical expertise as well as standard of practice with regard to morbidity and cost effectiveness.
  • Deputizes for his as required and shares workload in his specialty during the absence of his colleagues.
  • Participates in the Major Disaster Plan of Hospital, as indicated.
  • Participate in Community activities as related to health education and patient education practice.
  • Teaches staff assigned for training purposes, and participates with the Director of Department/Head of Division, Director of Postgraduate and Academic Affairs in planning a program of career development for trainees.
  • Teach and supervise the training of the Registrars and Residents and participates in the formal cardiothoracic surgery residency-training program as required.
  • Supervise and train Registrars and Residents in cardiothoracic surgery research, investigations, and reporting as required.
  • Assists in the training, teaching, supervision and assessment of trainee technicians, specialists and others as required
  • Provide classroom lectures to students, trainees or presentations to healthcare providers as required.
  • Takes part in teaching program lectures, seminars, tutorials etc.
  • Participates in orientation and in-service education programs.
  • Participates in CQI&PS System Control Activities, Staff Development, Environmental Safety Awareness and Fire and Safety Practices, Disaster, CPR and Infection Control.
  • Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills, and abilities.
