  • Location: Erbil Head Office with frequent travels to all MAG locations in country- MAG Iraq
  • Salary Pay: Grade 8 in accordance with MAG Iraq salary scale.

 Job Purpose

The IT Specialist is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, security, and efficiency of IT systems and networks across all bases and accommodation. This role provides direct IT support, manages network infrastructure, ensures system maintenance, and supports staff in using IT resources effectively.

 

Job Description

IT Infrastructure Management

  • Install, configure, and maintain personal computers, servers, network devices, and IT-related hardware.
  • Manage and troubleshoot local area networks, wireless networks, and internet connections.
  • Monitor network performance, identify issues, and implement solutions to optimize system availability.
  • Plan and implement network security measures, including firewalls, data encryption, and user access controls.
  • Maintain IT asset inventory and ensure timely procurement of IT equipment and software.
  • Monitoring systems for potential security breaches and leading incident response when threats occur.
  • Manag cloud-based platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365) and ensuring secure remote access for staff working in field bases.
  • Maintaining clear documentation of IT configurations, policies, and troubleshooting guides.

 

System Administration and Support

  • Support the maintenance and administration of internal databases and systems as required.
  • Provide first and second-level IT support to staff, resolving technical issues and ensuring continuity of IT services.
  • Manage user accounts, email systems, and access permissions while ensuring confidentiality and security.
  • Perform system backups, disaster recovery planning, and data integrity measures.
  • Develop and implement IT policies and procedures in alignment with organizational standards.

 

 

Capacity Building and Training

  • Train staff on IT procedures, system usage, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Provide guidance to sector IT focal points to ensure consistency in IT operations.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to field bases for maintenance, troubleshooting, and training.

 

Procurement and Coordination

  • Evaluate and recommend IT hardware, software, and services for procurement.
  • Work with the logistics and procurement team to ensure IT purchases align with organizational needs.
  • Coordinate with external IT service providers for maintenance, repairs, and software licensing.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Support Services.

 

 



Person Specifications:

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT support, and at least 3 years in network administration, or system management.
  • Experience managing network security, troubleshooting IT systems, and providing technical support.
  • Previous experience working in a multi-site environment with remote support responsibilities.
  • Experience in procurement and vendor coordination for IT-related services and equipment.

 

Essential Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong technical knowledge of networking, system administration, and IT security best practices.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues effectively.
  • Ability to train and support non-technical users in IT-related matters.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, Arabic, and Kurdish.

 

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or certification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience working in the humanitarian or development sector.
  • Familiarity with IT policies, data protection regulations, and cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Ability to work independently and travel to field bases when necessary
  • Knowledge of networking and system administration frameworks, with practical experience aligned to CCNA and MCSE standards, is considered an asset.
