Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE

The Business Trainer (Training Lead – Enterprise & Livelihoods) is responsible for leading the design, standardization, and quality assurance of all training and capacity-building interventions across the project, ensuring that training serves as a core driver of sustainable economic reintegration rather than a standalone activity.
The role aims to establish a coherent, competency-based training ecosystem that links directly with livelihood pathways, enterprise development interventions, and market opportunities. This includes ensuring that all training—whether delivered internally or through external providers—is aligned, structured, context-specific, and outcome-oriented, enabling beneficiaries to transition effectively into employment, self-employment, or business ownership.
Operating within a fragile and post-conflict environment, the Business Trainer will ensure that training approaches are inclusive, conflict-sensitive, and adaptable to varying literacy levels, while integrating essential components such as life skills, financial literacy, and social cohesion principles. The role will also ensure that training content reflects real market dynamics, reducing the gap between theoretical learning and practical application.

The Business Trainer will play a central role in strengthening the effectiveness and impact of enterprise and livelihood interventions by ensuring that beneficiaries are adequately prepared to develop viable Business Implementation Plans (BIPs), access economic opportunities, and sustain their income-generating activities over time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

Training System Design & Standardization

  • Lead the design and institutionalization of a unified, competency-based training framework across all livelihoods and enterprise interventions.
  • Develop standardized training packages covering entrepreneurship, financial literacy, livelihoods, soft skills, and business management.
  • Produce facilitator guides, participant manuals, and practical toolkits tailored to low-literacy contexts.
  • Establish clear learning pathways linking training to employment, self-employment, and enterprise development outcomes.
  • Integrate cross-cutting themes such as gender inclusion, conflict sensitivity, social cohesion, and basic MHPSS principles into all training materials.
  • Ensure alignment of all training content with market assessments and program strategies led by technical specialists/experts.

Training Quality Assurance & Oversight

  • Establish and enforce quality standards for all training delivery (internal teams and external providers).
  • Observe and assess training sessions, providing structured feedback and coaching.
  • Validate and approve training curricula and delivery methodologies used by services providers.
  • Ensure consistency in training delivery methodologies, tools, and messaging across all sites.
  • Develop and apply training evaluation tools to measure effectiveness and learning outcomes.

Integration with Livelihoods & Enterprise Programming

  • Ensure full alignment between training content and enterprise/livelihoodstrategies developed by technical leads.
  • Translate market assessment findings into practical training modules and exercises.
  • Align training with Business Implementation Plan (BIP) requirements and grant processes.
  • Coordinate sequencing of interventions (training, coaching, grants, follow-up).
  • Ensure training supports both employment pathways and self-employment opportunities.
  • Work closely with technical experts to incorporate sector-specific skills into training where relevant.
  • Ensure alignment with field teams on training logistics and implementation.
  • Support integration of training with social cohesion and MHPSS components.

Strategic Training Delivery & Technical Support

  • Deliver high-impact and specialized training sessions (e.g., advanced entrepreneurship, business planning).
  • Provide technical coaching to trainers and selected beneficiaries.
  • Support beneficiaries in developing and refining viable Business Implementation Plans (BIPs).
  • Provide expert input on complex or high-risk business cases.
  • Ensure practical application of learning through simulations, case studies, and real-life

Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (Training Component)

  • Collaborate with MEAL team to design training indicators and monitoring tools.
  • Track participant progress, learning outcomes, and post-training performance.
  • Analyze training effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

  • Document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices.
