About The Organization

 

WASEL TASEL was founded as a volunteer-based initiative in March 2015. It was born as a response to the displacement crisis that befell Iraq in recent years. We adhere to the four humanitarian principles (humanity, integrity, neutrality, and independence) when working with our beneficiaries, which include the displaced (IDPs), the Syrian refugees, and the host communities. Our new vision is focused on Education, Health, Development, Relief and Social Initiatives. On July 22, 2019, we became a registered IRAQI Non-Governmental Organization with certificate number 1I1907043 issued by the Department of Non-Governmental Organizations, General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers. Wasel Tasel Humanitarian Foundation management believe in women empowerment so %40 of the volunteers and employees are females. Our community center in Mosul city targeting programs of (Community cohesion, capacity and skills development for youth, agriculture and environment, education, health, livelihoods )

 

About The Project

Improving Educational Structures to Prevent Violent Extremism and Promote Social Cohesion in Areas of Return for Displaced Persons in Fallujah

Project Summary:

This project aims to strengthen the role of educational institutions in preventing violent extremism and building social cohesion in areas of return for displaced persons in Fallujah. The project focuses on building the capacity of school administrations and educational counselors to address the psychosocial challenges faced by students. It also promotes the use of extracurricular activities and art as tools for disseminating the values ​​of tolerance, peace, and social inclusion. Furthermore, the project contributes to strengthening cooperation between schools and community policing for early response to cases of violence and extremism. Finally, the project supports the creation of a safe and inclusive learning environment that contributes to sustainable community stability.

Job purpose

A three-day intensive training program was conducted for school principals and educational counselors in 16 primary schools within the Fallujah Education Directorate. The training aimed to equip educational staff with the skills to identify early warning signs of violent extremism, address the psychological and social challenges faced by returning students, and promote the values ​​of tolerance and cooperation.

Responsibilities

1. Designing and delivering training materials: Preparing a comprehensive training package covering the concepts of violent extremism, social cohesion, and the psychosocial needs of students in schools, particularly returnees.

2. Building the capacity of educational staff: Training participants on mechanisms for diagnosing stress and manifestations of violence related to social cohesion in the school environment.

3. Addressing psychological problems: Providing counselors with a scientific methodology on how to address the psychosocial problems experienced by returning students.

4. Developing early warning indicators: Enabling trainees to formulate and define clear indicators for monitoring extremist behaviors or behaviors that incite violence against children and foreshadow school dropout.

5. Facilitating security-educational coordination: Explaining and clarifying the role of community policing as a key partner in protecting the school environment and reducing extremism.

6. Evaluation and follow-up: Conducting pre- and post-training assessments of participants and submitting a final report that includes recommendations to ensure the sustainability of the training's impact.

 



Required Qualifications and Experience

Academic Background: University degree in the humanities (psychology, sociology, education) or a related field.

Practical Experience:
1. At least 3-5 years of experience in training on issues related to preventing violent extremism (PVE) or social cohesion.

2. In-depth knowledge of the local context in Anbar Governorate and issues concerning internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees from displacement camps.

3. Previous experience working with government institutions (Ministry of Education, Community Police).

 Technical Skills:
1. Strong ability to simplify complex psychological and social concepts for administrative and educational staff.

2. Proficiency in facilitating interactive workshops and using adult training methods.

3. Excellent communication skills for working in multi-stakeholder environments (educational, security, community).

Expected Outcomes:
1. Developing the capacity of 16 schools in the early detection of indicators of violent extremism.

2. An action plan for each school to promote social cohesion and address school dropout issues.

3. A detailed technical report on the performance of the trainees and their readiness to deal with cases of violence or extremism.
