Job Description

PURPOSE OF DIVISION:

Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is an international relief and development charity that envisages a caring world where people unite to respond to the suffering of others, empowering them to fulfil their potential. Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) has been working in Iraq for more than 20 years. IRW-Iraq was amongst the few aid agencies those were on the ground since 2003. Islamic Relief Worldwide Iraq is implementing several projects in the sector of livelihoods, WASH, Education, and Seasonal Projects

JOB PURPOSE:

 

We are seeking a qualified Media and Communication Assistant to ensure effective communication with relevant stakeholders, and representatives. The role will also be responsible for the proper documentation and dissemination of information related to IRW-Iraq’s activities.

The Assistant will support and train relevant staff at the field level on collecting, documenting, and sharing communication and media-related information in line with organizational standards. The successful candidate should have strong knowledge and understanding of communication, and media functions, along with excellent skills in documentation and information dissemination.

The overall objective of this position is to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, ensure accurate documentation, and support the consistent sharing of communication and media-related materials that reflect IRW-Iraq’s work.

Internal:

  • Country Director
  • Program Managers and Officers
  • Field Office Coordinators
  • HR, Procurement, and Finance Departments
  • MEAL and Communication focal points
  • HOP

External:

  • Government departments and representatives
  • Partner organizations and NGOs
  • Media outlets and communication platforms
  • Relevant stakeholders and service providers

 

Generic responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all communication, and media activities comply with IRW policies, procedures, and donor requirements.
  • Promote transparency and accountability in all communication and documentation processes.
  • Support the organization’s commitment to ethical conduct and integrity in all tasks.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports, updates, and analysis related to liaison, communication, and media activities.

Specific responsibilities:

Communication

  • Coordinate internal and external communication to ensure accurate and consistent messaging.
  • Facilitate information sharing between Baghdad Office, Erbil Office, and field offices.
  • Support documentation of organizational activities for reporting and visibility purposes.

Media and Documentation

  • Collect, document, and organize media-related content (written, visual, and digital) in line with IRW guidelines.
  • Support departments (Programs, HR, Procurement) with content for announcements, activities, and opportunities.
  • Ensure timely dissemination of approved communication and media materials.
  • Train and guide field staff on proper documentation and information collection related to communication and media.

Digital Platforms

  • Manage and regularly update IRW-Iraq’s website and social media platforms including LinkedIn and Facebook.
  • Ensure all published content aligns with IRW branding, communication standards, and policies.
  • Coordinate updates and improvements to digital platforms to ensure accuracy and relevance.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The job holder is accountable for fulfilling his or her roles and responsibilities in line with Islamic Relief values and principles of fairness, humanity, honesty, respect and fair treatment of his/her colleagues and staff.

 

1.       Communication

  • Ensure the effective communication within and outside the organization with all the relevant stakeholders including Government Representatives/Departments at different locations across the Iraq particularly in Baghdad
  • Ensure the effective communication related to media with HQ, Country Officer-Erbil and the all-field offices across Iraq

2.       Media and social media

  • Provide support for HR department regarding advertising new positions on website
  • Provide support for Procurement department regarding advertising new bids on website
  • Provide support for Program department regarding advertising new activities and projects on website
  • Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work
  • Work continuously on a task until completion (or referral to third parties, if appropriate)
  • Manage Website, Social media channels of the organization
  • Ensure all the material posted over social media must be in line with IRW policy
