Job Description

Position Overview: The Iraqi Institution for Development (IID) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Grants Coordinator and Proposal Writer Specialist. This role is integral to our mission of fostering sustainable development and humanitarian assistance in Iraq. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing donor relationships, coordinating grants, and writing proposals to secure funding for IID’s programs. This position requires excellent communication skills, a deep understanding of grant management, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

You are responsible for developing compelling proposals to assist the organization in securing funds to meet the identified critical needs of the most vulnerable people in areas where IID  has a presence. Due to our lean operations and rapid growth, you will get access to greater learnings, freedom, and responsibilities than most organizations could offer. Each person plays a significant role in the organization and is treated accordingly with a great amount of respect and appreciation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Donor Coordination:

    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with current and potential donors.
    • Ensure timely and accurate communication with donors regarding IID’s activities and impact.
    • Organize and attend donor meetings, site visits, and other engagement activities.
  2. Grants Management:

    • Identify and research potential grant opportunities from a variety of sources.
    • Manage the full grant cycle, including application, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with donor requirements and guidelines.
    • Maintain a comprehensive database of grants, including deadlines, reporting requirements, and key contacts.
  3. Proposal Writing:

    • Lead the development and writing of high-quality grant proposals and funding applications.
    • Collaborate with program staff to gather necessary information and data for proposals.
    • Develop budgets and financial plans for proposed projects.
    • Review and edit proposals for clarity, coherence, and alignment with donor priorities.
  4. Reporting and Documentation:

    • Prepare regular reports for donors, ensuring accuracy and adherence to reporting guidelines.
    • Document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices to share with stakeholders.
    • Maintain organized records of all proposal submissions, communications, and grant-related documents.
  5. Strategic Planning:

    • Contribute to the strategic planning of IID’s funding strategies and priorities.
    • Provide insights and recommendations to senior management based on donor trends and funding opportunities.
  6. Other:
    Required to adhere to IID principles and values as well as the promotion of gender justice and women's rights
    Understanding of and commitment to adhere to equity, diversity, gender, child safety and staff health and wellbeing principles

Qualifications & Preferred Skills:

  • Education:

    • A master’s degree in International Development, Nonprofit Management, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in grant writing, donor coordination, and grant management, preferably within the NGO sector.
    • Proven track record of securing significant funding from diverse sources, including governmental, institutional, and private donors.
  • Skills:

    • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills in English. Proficiency in Arabic and/or Kurdish is highly desirable.
    • Native or near-native fluency in English (written and spoken);
    • Strong written communication skills and the ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals;
    • Strong editing skills with an attention to detail;
    • Strong people skills;
    • Excellent MS Office skills (Word, Excel and PPT);
    • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines with general direction and minimal guidance
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
    • Proficiency in using grant management software and databases.
    • Strong analytical and research skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural and dynamic environment.
